My Yoga Teacher Training Experience
“For many years it has been a dream of mine to take a yoga teacher training course and in 2019 I finally made it happen on a very enlightening trip to Thailand”
My First 200 Hours Yoga Teacher Training
I had done a lot of research and had originally decided to go to a school in Europe, but for some reason I was guided to another school. With everything already planned and the education fund at my job was already paying for the education, I had to make a fast choice, so I ended up in Koh Phangan in Thailand instead of staying in Europe. In many ways this was a lucky choice.
”The group of people I met in Thailand, made the difference for all of the 200 hours.“
Yoga Yoga Yoga And Even More Yoga
I spent the next 28 days in Koh Phangan, Thailand. I had been to Thailand the year before to do a 100 hour yin-yoga teacher training, so I knew a little about what I was going into. Yoga teacher training, for some sounds “easy” and peaceful to people. Most reactions I experienced were, “oh you are soooo lucky”, “must be nice to go to Thailand”, or “it must be so amazing and relaxing”. Don’t get me wrong, it IS amazing, wonderful and life changing. BUT, it’s hard work, every single day.

The Classes
All of our teachers at the yoga were amazing teachers. All very talented in different areas of yoga. It was a good experience to have more than one Teacher, to see that there is more than one way of teaching yoga.
The other good thing was that we also got a lot of experience in teaching ourselves. Each week we had a 75 min practice “exam”. At first I didn’t like the idea so much, but after the first time it became more natural and fun.
New Friends
Meeting new people is always a fun thing to do. We were a small class and that was a really good thing for us. We all became friends fast and everyone was amazing people. All with different approaches to yoga and life, which is a big gift. We did yoga together each day, we also learned new stories and new people. Each person on that course, had their own unique life story and I’m so proud to be a part of it. We came from all over the world. England, Denmark, Germany, Australia, USA, and the Netherlands.
One Girl wrote this article about our journey: https://coach.nine.com.au/2019/03/13/17/31/yoga-teacher-training-beginners-guide.
The Emotional Journey
I’m not sure how most people experience their first Teacher training, but from what I have seen, it’s an emotional journey for everyone. We all shared deep heartfelt stories, memories and moments. We shared our lives, dreams and hopes. We cried, laughed, hugged, and smiled on our journey. It wasn’t an easy ride, there was bumps, doubts, questions, ups and downs. With this little group of people I would do it all over again.
Black Light Yoga
One of the special events about uluyoga is the Black light yoga. It’s really a fun thing to do. One evening we all got together with a lot of paint and painted each other. After that we found some great Music and made a small black light yoga dance.
Here is a video of the Black light: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0cY8SG2UBLY.
Koh Phagan
This little island paradise is one of the most wonderful yoga places I have been to. It has a really good energy and many great yoga schools, retreats, and fun things to experience. If you ever consider going, I can definitely recommend Koh Phangan. My favorites were:

If you are having any doubts, just do it anyway, otherwise you will never find out if yoga teacher training is for you...
