Best Yoga ways for an Empath
Best Yoga ways for an Empath
Here is a little bit of my own story finding Yin
I was 36 when I first tried Yin and I hated it. I was used to moving all the same, I was highly annoyed by sitting still, in fact I couldn’t sit still. I was sweating, irritated, a lot of thoughts were running around in my mind… 2 years after I took my first teacher training in Yin. The first 100 hours of Yin training was on Koh Samui in Thailand, it was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. My intention was to learn Yin, but what actual happened was, that the grief of loosing my boyfriend, got released. I learned to teach, and I learned to let go. The deepest lesson was also to learn how deep Yin can effect your body, mind and soul. I truly believe that our bodies holds on to whatever happens to us in our lives and when we get that change to sit with it, instead of running away, the magic happens.
Yin Yoga can do wonders if you are a highly sensitive person. Taking time to recharge and restore your energy, maybe getting some quiet time in, can help you get your energy back. There is many way for to recharge, since I teach Yoga I can speak of experience when it comes to recharging with special practicing Yin Yoga. Why?
You are taking time just for you. You have 1-2 hours just to yourself, less stimuli. The light is normally dimmed, there is a few poses and you won’t move a lot. Yin has a calming effect on the body, with the longer gentle holds, less movement and more opening/listening/feeling inward, Yin can open doors you didn’t knew existed.
Yin helps you regulate your body, mind and soul when it is overstimulated.
Breathing deeply helps your system overall to return to normal. When we are super busy, our breath becomes shallow. Stepping onto the yoga mat, you will be guided to breath deeply and maybe you will discover how shallow your breath had become. The deep breathing helps the respiratory muscles to refind their way to a breath of a higher quality, using all of the oxygen, instead of the shallow breath you might have had for a long time.
Other great Yoga styles are:
Gentle flows, bringing your energy in and down to become more grounded. Sometimes we do need a flow to move and it really makes the body feel amazing, there is absolutely nothing wrong with stepping into a high pitched Vinyasa flow or hot yoga, do it, when you want to and feel like it. When you get to know your boundaries better and yourself, you will know when you need what. I mentioned the gentle flow, because it is a middle way for me. If I don’t really know and I feel like moving, this is what I would pick. And I love to flow, to get a little lost with my own thoughts and move in a pace I can follow easy, bring magic into my life.
Restorative Yoga, if you havn’t tried a restorative, you are in for a special treat. In a restorative class, you get movement less than Yin. The poses are so different, that I had to really rethink my whole way of teaching yoga. When Im super stressed, this is what I practice, it takes me down and in, it is a different level of Yoga, that I so highly appreciate and deeply love. It’s like a savasana with a long goodnight story, the space is held just for you and you can simply just dive deep into your own thoughts. I love it.
Meditation, as a sensitive person, meditation is like the conditioner. It smoothes and softens everything. There is nothing like it and it is quite addictive. For some people it can be a huge challenge to just be with their thoughts. I have heard many different opinions about mediation, how it should be done, what people think it is, what might happen if you practice meditation and so on. For me, it’s simply. As many people there is on earth, as many different styles and types there if of both yoga and meditation. You can embrace and learn one way, it might not be the right way for the person next to you.
Yoga is like going on the work of a detective, of your own body. Yin, provides you time, instead of rushing and stepping into the next pose, you have the time to just explore, to sit and to figure out what your body is trying to tell you. Yin, gives you time to listen. Yin, is magic.
When you step into a Yin class with me, I will be holding the space for you, so you can be with what you need to be with. The classes are created from my heart, inspired from several amazing teachers I have met in my life. My hope and dream is to inspire you to continue to do yoga, to dig deep and to truly find yourself. If you have any questions about my classes, yin, yoga, meditation or Reiki, feel free to ask me. I would love to hear from you.
